Peter Opsvik Stokke Varier Variable Balance ergonomic kneeling chair
At the very beginning of 1976 Hans Christian Mengshoel (1946) initiated an ergonomic study on posture. It showed that a seat which was tilted slightly forward was best. An experimental period for the Norwegian design industry followed and finally led to the design of this ergonomic kneeling chair, which was first introduced at the Scandinavian Furniture Fair in Copenhagen in 1979. The chair was designed by Peter Opsvik. The design is extraordinary and has a character all of its own. The kneeling chair bears its name Variable: with this chair you can vary your posture in every possible way. You can sit on it plain, sideways or backwards. You can leave the cushions under the seat unused or rest your shins, one foot or two feet on them. You can rock or sit still. Whatever you do, an ergonomic sitting position is guaranteed, because this kneeling chair provides optimal balance. You cant't slouch or slump, but you have an active posture. Back, shoulder and neck complaints are a thing of the past!
